Teachers

The Hawaiian Humane Society has developed several tools to help you in the classroom.

CARE Curriculum

Humane education curriculum entitled CARE, Compassion and Responsibility Education is available for all Oahu’s teachers. These lesson plans are academically valuable, match with HCPSIII standards, encourage complex thinking and offer extended learning opportunities. CARE is available for pre-readers through secondary grade levels.

All activities are presented to support a balance of affective and cognitive learning. Each lesson accommodates a variety of learning styles to encourage student participation and interaction. Activities are designed to be enjoyable, motivational and include opportunities to serve their school or community.

Download the CARE Request form if you are interested in obtaining the free CARE curriculum.

Service Learning Project Ideas

Service learning strengthens your curriculum; provides hands-on, interactive learning; and can help a charity in need! Download the Service Project Ideas list for ideas beyond those listed in the CARE curriculum.

Self-Guided Educational Tour

The Humane Society invites you and your students to participate in a self-guided educational tour. Download the Self Guided Tour packet to prepare you for the experience. This packet contains our shelter’s points of interest, logistic information and the Self Guided Tour Request Form. All requests should be received by the Hawaiian Humane Society at least 1 week prior to the tour.

Voluntary Education Ambassador Team

The Hawaiian Humane Society is seeking a group of volunteers to assist with outreach efforts and to be part of its Education Ambassador volunteer team. Ambassadors will assist at events in Oahu’s underserved communities, advise the society’s Teen Advisory Panel, and support other society education efforts. Please email Bonnie Osaki if you are interested at bosaki@hawaiianhumane.org.
