Hawaiian Humane Society believes restaurant owners should have the right to choose whether to allow dogs in their own restaurant. Current health code interpretations disallow all animals except service animals in eating establishments. The Hawaii State Department of Health was asked in 2010 to reconsider their interpretation of the existing administrative rules that prohibit well-behaved dogs and their owners from dining together at private establishments.
These restaurants and the Hawaiian Humane Society have joined together and feel business owners should have the right to choose if they want to allow pets or not. We believe this choice should be at each restaurant owner’s discretion.
